Ending Year1 with a great progress

On the 28th of November 2024 the Edge-SpAIce project organized the 2nd consortium gathering, this time in Geneva, Switzerland. Outside it was cold but in our heats we were full with deep sense of accomplishments. Here are the highlights of Year2024:

Technical progress:

  • NTUA developed a DNN dedicated for plastic detection based on Sentinel-2 data accustomised for the target platform of EnduroSat.
  • AGENIUM Space made a significant progress in ODiToo (Optimised Distillation Tool for DNNs) capabilities, making it ???
  • CERN managed to make 100k size DNNs quantised to INT8 to deploy on SoC FPGA with HLS4ML.
  • EDS has built and shipped their satellite for launch, planned on 14th of January 2025 to provide the critical imagery needs of this project.

Here are some links revealing the scientific progress the consortium has done this far:

  • CERN has presented its HLS4ML tool’s capability to optimise space on SoC FPGA logic for edge-AI execution in ESA’s organised conference “OBPDC 2024 – 9th International Workshop on On-Board Payload Data Compression” in Canary islands, Spain on 2-4th October. The conference paper can be accessed through zenodo.
  • A summary of OBPDC was also presented in “Fast Machine Learning for Science Conference 2024” on 16th of October in USA, available through CERN server.

While visiting Geneva for the consortium gathering, Edge-SpAIce consortium also took an opportunity to present the project through CERN’s Knowledge-Transfer platform – event details at CERN’s server. The following video summarizes what we have been up for during the year. Hope you enjoy this in-detail insight! Video: Edge-SpAIce @KT seminar.
